The Santal genus consists of about 25 species. Traditionally, Indian sandalwood was used in religious events and for the production of incense in India. Therefore, when talking about aromatherapy benefits, it is this plant that is meant. We suggest you enjoy the rather rare essential oil from sandalwood. Since the 1960s, Indian sandalwood have been listed in the list of extinct and endangered species and for a long time in India they were classified as state property and felling was prohibited. But since 2001 (and from 2022 in most regions of India), strict preservation has allowed the population to recover and private farms have been allowed to grow the trees for their own use. Since then, farmers began to grow sandalwood more intensively, and it became possible to extract sandalwood oil, which is so highly valued in perfumery and cosmetics. Our sandalwood oil is sourced from a sustainable farm.

Sandalwood oil is highly valued in cosmetics for its properties. It is rich in santalol, which inhibits inflammatory processes in the skin and reduces the rate of epidermal cell division, and the effect is similar to corticosteroids. Therefore, sandalwood oil is successfully used for inflammation. In clinical trials with volunteers with severe acne, preparations with sandalwood oil improved skin condition after 2 weeks in almost 90% of cases [1]. Sandalwood oil reduces the risk of clogged pores and the formation of closed comedones. In other studies, sandalwood oil was successfully used in patients with psoriasis (10% oil solution) [2]. This oil reduces itching and redness, restores the normal structure of the skin.

Sandalwood oil is an excellent active ingredient in skin care products for herpes [3] and skin fungi [6].

Sandalwood oil has a very mild action on the skin and can be used on dry and sensitive skin. In research reports, only very rare cases of individual intolerance appear, and the safe concentration reaches as much as 40% [4].

Clay masks with sandalwood oil are useful for reducing pigment spots on aging and UV-damaged skin [5].
