Camphor trees comes from Southeast Asia where they grows widely in the wild. Nowadays, this fast growing tree has spread to South Africa and Australia. The chemical composition of essential oils varies greatly depending on the region where the tree grew. Therefore, several types of essential oils are extracted from one plant which not only smell differently but also have different properties.

Like ravintsara oil, this oil is obtained from camphor trees, but they are not at all similar to each other. The essential oil is extracted from camphor trees grown in Southeast Asia and locally known as Ho trees has a floral aroma with a note of fresh leaves.

This oil contains more than 98% linalool, which is considered an important component because it has relaxing properties. Ho wood oil has a higher percentage of linalool than e.g. in oils such as lavender, basil and coriander [1]. Therefore aromatherapy specialists highly recommend this oil for managing stress, depression and anxiety.

Ho wood oil can be recommended for irritated, inflamed skin and psoriasis [2].

This essential oil can be used to prepare synergistic mixtures to enhance the antimicrobial properties with essential oils such as thyme and clove [3]. They are more effective in mixtures than each separately.
