Common Method Of Extraction: essential oil extracted by water distillation from the flowering tops of Melissa officinalis.

Aroma: sweet, reminiscent of lemon, but with a sharp and rich grassy note.

Melissa plant contains very little essential oil, which makes its extraction difficult and the oil itself expensive. This oil is often adulterated when a mixture of melissa and lemongrass is used for distillation, or the oil itself is diluted with other essential oils. Melissa is a plant known to man since ancient times, the properties of which are widely used to this day. One of the methods of use is compresses and tea from the leaves, as a remedy for swelling, when a lot of water accumulates in the tissues. Studies have shown that melissa essential oil can also be used directly on the swollen area [1]. Melissa oil is suitable for masks for the face and under the eyes.

Melissa oil can be successfully used in skin care for herpes, acne and problem skin [2]. It is also added to mouthwashes to get rid of bad breath [3].

Melissa oil is suitable for enriching hair care products with oily scalp, when hair gets greasy quickly, with dandruff and scalp frizz.

In aromatherapy, the warm and calming smell of melissa is recommended to create a relaxing environment for depressed mood or sleep disorders.

Usage:
✓ for skin and hair care – mix 2-4 drops of oil with 10 g of base (e.g. base oil – almond, kiwi seed, grape seed, etc.)
✓ for face masks – mix 3 tea. teaspoons of clay, 3 tea. teaspoons of water and 1-2 drops of oil until you get a fairly thick paste. Apply to the skin and leave for 10-15 minutes. Do not allow to dry completely. Then rinse with warm water.
✓ baths – mix 3-4 drops of oil with 1 tablespoon of milk, honey, sea or table salt, add to a full bath of water. The duration of the procedure is 10-15 minutes.
✓ it is possible to vaporize essential oils in vaporizers or aroma lamps.

Precautions: do not use in case of individual intolerance and children’s skin care. Do not use pure oil on the skin. Before use, it is necessary to check whether the oil inhaled or applied to the skin will not cause an individual allergic reaction!
