Method of extraction: the essential oil is extracted by hydrodistillation from the resin of the myrrh tree Commiphora myrrha.

Aroma: warm, smoky, rich with a balsamic note reminiscent of fir cones and with spicy tint.

Legends about myrrh trees and the aromatic resin obtained from them have been occured since the time of Ancient Egypt, where it was used not only for wound healing but also valued for its perfumery properties.

Myrrh oil is used as a scent fixer in perfumery. It is a favorite ingredient of perfumers in various incenses and oriental perfumes.

Myrrh oil is one of the rare essential oils that does not have concentration limits under IFRA guidelines when used as a cosmetic ingredient. It is used for the care of problematic skin in case of dermatitis, cracks, damaged skin [1, 2]. This oil has a cooling effect on the skin [5].

Myrrh oil is successfully used in remedies for severe acne and closed comedones [5]. This oil is added to oral care rinses for inflamed gums.

Clay masks with myrrh oil are recommended for mature and problem skin to revive healthy color.

Myrrh oil can be used as an additional ingredient in sunscreens to increase their SPF and reduce the negative effects of UV rays [3]. Studies have shown that myrrh oil effectively protects physiologically important components of the skin from UV rays and is useful for the enrichment of cosmetics [4].

Usage:
✓ for skin care – mix 4-8 drops of essential oil with 10 g of the base (e.g. carrier oil – argan, rosehip, etc.)
✓ for face masks – mix 3 teaspoons of clay, 3 teaspoons of water and 5-6 drops of oil until you get a fairly thick paste. Apply to the skin and leave for 10-15 minutes. Do not allow to dry completely. Then rinse with warm water.
✓ for gum care – add 3-4 drops to 10 ml of rinsing liquid.
✓ baths – mix 4-8 drops of essential oil with 1 tablespoon of milk, honey, sea or table salt, add to a full bath of water. The duration of the procedure is 10-15 minutes.
✓ it is possible to vaporize essential oils in vaporizers or aroma lamps.

Contraindications: individual oil intolerance. Do not use for skin care during pregnancy. Before using essential oils, it is necessary to check whether the inhaled or applied oil will not cause an individual allergic reaction!
