Method of extraction: the essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from fresh leaves and twigs of cajeput Melaleuca cajeputi.

Aroma: complex, refreshing, grassy, with light notes of flowers, mint and camphor.

All plants of the genus of the myrtle family are famous as decorative, medicinal, and even sacred in some cultures. There is the white tree among them – Cajeput which stands out not only in its appearance but also in its properties. It grows in South Asia, Indonesia and Australia and is known locally as a remedy for tropical insect bites, wound desinfection and toothache.

Cajeput is a relative of the tea tree and the properties obtained from them essential oils are similar. But the great benefit of cajeput oil is that it is less allergic to the skin and can be safely used in cosmetic products at a higher concentration.

Cajeput oil is used to enrich cosmetics for acne-prone and problematic skin with furuncles. This oil contains a large amount of powerful substances that inhibit the growth of bacteria [1, 2] and fungi [3]. Cajeput oil is used for skin fungi and herpes. It is an extremely effective anti-dandruff agent, so it is recommended for enriching shampoos or conditioners.

In aromatherapy, the scent of cajeput is tonic, helps concentration and eliminates drowsiness. It is recommended to vaporize this essential oil in diffusers during the cold season [4].

Usage:
✓ for skin care – mix 3-5 drops of essential oil with 10 g of the base (e.g. carrier oil – castor, grape seed oil, etc.)
✓ in case of acne – mix 5-7 drops of essential oil with 10 g of base (if only on problem areas, you can safely use the neat oil but not for the whole face)
✓ for hair care – mix 3-5 drops of essential oil with 10 g of base
✓ for face masks – mix 4-6 drops of essential oil with 2 tablespoons of clay and water (or hydrolat)
✓ baths – mix 4-7 drops of essential oil with 1 tablespoon of milk, honey, sea or table salt, add to a full bath of water. The duration of the procedure is 10-15 minutes.
✓ it is possible to vaporize essential oil in diffusers.

Contraindications: Do not use in case of individual intolerance. It can cause allergic skin reactions so be sure to do a patch test before applying it topically.
